Stand Up And Speak Out Program

STAND UP AND SPEAK OUT PROGRAM

CADAM in association with NACDOR launched the processes for organizing the ‘Stand Up and Speak Out’ program against poverty in the states of Gujarat, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. In a meeting held on 10th April, 2008, in New Delhi, it was decided that at least a million people will have to be mobilised. Detailed guidelines, including a model memorandum for each level of three-tier government were prepared and about 2500 such packets were sent to NACDOR/TPMS/WNTA partners. As a result of this, NACDOR succeeded in mobilising more than one million people who not only stood up against poverty, but also submitted more than 600 memorandums in different parts of the country. CADAM in association with NACDOR, TPMS and Amnesty International organised a key programme in the Parliament on 17th October 2008. Salil Shetty, Director of UN Millennium Campaign joined the programme. NACDOR-Amnesty International members sent thousands of postcards to the Prime Minister of India seeking his intervention to address the poverty of the Dalits and other marginalised groups on 18th October, 2008.
